Ok, so what’s the word. Bottom line is Rent it.
I’m not going to give away spoilers exactly but I watched the movie with my wife this evening even though we wanted to see this in the theatres.. I’m very glad we waited. There are certain aspects of the film I did enjoy, some of the action sequences, Sam Worthington did a great job and I am of course a fan of Anton Yelchin and Christian Bale (Even though he melted down on set like a total creep), regardless, I just didn’t feel at all like this movie delivered. I would have loved to see it in the hands of it’s creator of course, James Cameron.
If you don’t think Hollywood can’t just totally screw something up, take a look at this movie. It was so cheesy in so many respects that I really didn’t feel for any character except for Sam Worthington’s toon. Overall, it was just a huge dissapointment and with such a classic story backdrop to work from, I just don’t see how it was possible to FAIL. I expect more now from films after seeing Christopher Nolan, Peter Jackson and of course JJ Abrams and crew at work and when I see anyone hiring someone who had anything to do with Catwoman to scribe, I really don’t expect much. Which comes to my final point.
I went into movies like Transformer’s with little expectations and I ended up enjoying the movie. Not nearly as good as the first but overall it was pretty good and I would recommend the rental. Here, I heard different reasons for different endings and I tried to put those out of my head and really lowered my expectations for the film. That being the case, I still felt like my OnDemand $5.99 was a bit on the high side.
Is it worth the rental? Yes. On Blu-Ray, sure. Is it worth the purchase, I can honestly say, No.
While I could comment on the stupidity of Skynet, the lackluster appearance of a world in apocalypse, chicks with makeup, perfect teeth and pretty dumb looking and acting terminators, I could. But it’s just not worth my time. Hope this was helpful.
If you want a great BluRay purchase and are waiting for Christmas, I highly recommend JJ Abrams Star Trek or the Season 1 of Fringe. Both are exceptional and quite frankly, Mr. Abrams is probably my favorite director at this time. He just get’s it. Cheers!
